Abstract
This study aims to investigate the influence of AI-generated feedback on task accomplishment among Mass Communication students at Kaduna Polytechnic. The study is achieved through the following objective: to investigate the perceptions of final year evening programme Mass Communication students towards AI-generated feedback, to examine the usability and accessibility of AI-generated feedback as a communication tool among final year evening programme students of Mass Communication, to explore the effectiveness of AI-generated feedback in improving final year evening programme Mass communication students’ academic Performance, and finally to identify the strengths and limitations of AI-generated feedback in its support for final year evening programme Mass Communication students learning outcomes. The theoretical foundation of this research is the Social Cognitive Theory (SCT). The study population is 255 students HND and ND final year evening students. The study employed a quantitative research design, utilizing a survey questionnaire to collect data using a probability systematic random sampling to select 155 students. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequency tables and means of various items in the questionnaire. The findings revealed that a majority of students were aware of AI-generated feedback and perceived it as a valuable tool for improving their academic performance. However, some concerns were raised regarding the clarity and comprehensiveness of AI-generated feedback. The study concludes that AI-generated feedback has the potential to enhance student learning and task accomplishment, but it should be used in conjunction with human feedback to ensure optimal learning outcomes. The research recommends that Department of Mass Communication should start providing training for educators on effective use of AI-generated feedback. In addition, Kaduna Polytechnic as an institution in the 21st century should start to develop guidelines for AI-generated feedback implementation. Finally, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) should begin to integrate AI-generated feedback tools into Mass Communication curricula.
