Abstract
This study investigates the influence of family pressure on corrupt practices among public servants at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI), Ikwo. The research explores how familial expectations and obligations impact the prevalence of unethical behaviors such as extortion, bribery, and embezzlement. Specifically, the study aims to examine whether parental pressure contributes to extortion practices, assess the relationship between the need to pay school fees and bribery, and explore the role of basic needs provision in fostering embezzlement among public servants at AE-FUNAI. Additionally, the study seeks to identify strategies to alleviate family-related pressures on public servants and reduce corruption within the institution. Utilizing both qualitative and quantitative methods, data was gathered to analyze these dynamics and propose actionable recommendations to mitigate the influence of family pressures on corrupt practices. This research contributes to the understanding of the socio-economic factors driving corruption in public service and offers insights into potential policy interventions for improved ethical conduct.
