Compensation Packages and Workers Performance in Etsako West Local Government Council, Edo State

Abstract
This study examined the effect of compensation packages on workers' performance in public organizations with reference to Etsako West Local Government Council, Edo State. The study was guided by the following objectives: To identify the factors that determine compensation packages in Etsako West Local Government Council; to examine whether workers at different level perceive themselves as equal in terms of compensation packages and to identify if compensation packages have brought about job satisfaction or otherwise to the workers (both junior and senior staff). The study employed the descriptive and explanatory design; the method of data collection was through questionnaires of which 346 were distributed, however only 289 which represent 83.5% of the total questionnaire were correctly filled and retrieved, and the chi square test was adopted to test the research hypothesis. The study findings concluded on the overall that compensation packages have significant effect on workers performance in Etsako West Local Government Council, and that the most motivating factor to them (workers) is money. It was recommended among others that the administrators of the organizations should provide commensurate monetary compensation alongside non-financial benefits such as flexible working arrangements, opportunities for growth and development, recognition programs, and work-life balance initiatives.
