Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigated the effect of sustainability reporting on financial performance of selected listed deposit money banks in Nigeria. Panel data were sourced from the Nigerian Exchange Group fact sheets and annual reports of companies under study from 2014 to 2023. Specifically, the study interrogated how sustainability reporting measured by economic disclosures, social disclosures and environmental disclosures affect financial performance proxy by profit after tax. Panel data ordinary least square was used as data analysis method, while the research design of the study was ex-post facto. The regression model with respect to profit after tax found that social disclosure and environmental disclosure have no significant effect while economic disclosure has positive and significant effect on profit after tax of the quoted banks under study. The study therefore, concluded that sustainability reporting has no impact on financial performance of selected listed deposit money banks in Nigeria. The study therefore made a few suggestions, among which is that Nigerian companies should invest a reasonable part of their profits in sustainability activities, while professional accounting regulators should develop specific accounting models to guide the companies' relationship to sustainability activities.
