Abstract
Ten (10) soil samples was collected from the Faculty of Life Sciences, Ambrose Alli University. One gram of which was suspended in 9m ml of water and serially diluted. The total heterotrophic bacterial count was determined on Nutrient agar. Klebsiella pneumoniae was isolated on McConkey agar and a series of biochemical tests including coagulase, catalase, oxidase and Gram staining were performed on the isolates to confirm their identity. Antibiotics susceptibility tests was carried out using the disc diffusion method against 4 commonly used antibiotics namely Penicillin, Gentamycin, Chloramphenicol and Tetracycline. The results revealed a significantly high heterotrophic bacterial count, ranging from 106 to 964 ×106 CFU/ml.
