Abstract
Digester has been successful designed with local available materials. The Kitchen wastes were obtained from restaurants around Federal Polytechnics Nekede, Owerri West, Imo State. The poultry droppings were obtained from a poultry in Owerri West, Imo State.
The digester for the fermentation of the waste was a metal prototype of 57 L capacity. Poultry droppings blended with Kitchen wastes and water at the mixture ratio of 7.5 kg, 7.5 kg and 21 L respectively, were used to produce biogas at ambient temperature with a retention period of 14 days. The Ash content gives an indication of the mineral content of the waste showing that it would be a very good bio-fertilizer providing enough mineral sources to the soil.
This will provide a cheap source of energy as well resolving issue of producing hazardous carbon dioxide, which in return, keeps the environment clean and make it less polluted.
