Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study examines the sustainable waste management strategies adopted by poultry farmers in Ekiti State, Nigeria, and assesses their effectiveness in mitigating environmental impacts while promoting economic viability. Poultry farming generates substantial waste, including poultry droppings, carcasses, and used bedding materials, which can lead to environmental degradation if not properly managed. This research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys, interviews, and observational techniques to gather data from a representative sample of poultry farmers across the state. The findings reveal the current waste management practices, their challenges, and the level of awareness regarding sustainable waste disposal techniques such as composting, biogas production, and waste recycling. Furthermore, the study evaluates the impact of these practices on farm productivity, cost efficiency, and environmental sustainability. The study highlights key factors influencing waste management decisions, such as access to resources, knowledge of sustainable techniques, and government policies. Based on the results, the paper offers recommendations for improving waste management strategies, including the need for enhanced training programs, policy support, and the promotion of innovative technologies. Ultimately, the study aims to contribute to the development of more sustainable and economically viable poultry farming practices in Ekiti State and beyond.
