Abstract
The research titled "The Impact of Mathematics Knowledge on Graduates Employment Opportunities" explores the critical role that mathematical skills play in enhancing employment prospects for graduates. Four research question and two research hypothesis was used in the study. The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design. The population of the study was Seventy (70) staff from the school of science Nwafor Orizu College of education Nsugbe. Simple random sampling techniques were used for sampling techniques while thirty staff was used as sampling of the study. A validated structured questionnaires whose reliability was established at 0.74 through test-retest method using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. Mean and Standard deviation were used to collect relevant data while z-test statistics at 0.05 were used to test the research hypothesis. As the demand for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) professionals continues to rise, possessing a solid foundation in mathematics is increasingly recognized as essential for securing employment in various fields. This study examines the correlation between mathematical proficiency and job market outcomes, highlighting that employers often prioritize candidates with strong math skills. Previous research indicates that individuals with higher mathematical competencies tend to receive more job offers and exhibit greater career advancement opportunities. The investigation includes a survey of employers across different industries to identify specific mathematical skills deemed necessary for various roles. Furthermore, the findings suggest that graduates lacking adequate math knowledge may face significant barriers to employment, particularly in technical and vocational sectors where practical applications of math are crucial. By analyzing data from recent graduates and employer feedback, this research aims to provide insights into how educational institutions can better prepare students for the workforce by emphasizing the importance of mathematics in their curricula. Ultimately, this study underscores the necessity for students to develop robust mathematical skills to enhance their employability and navigate a competitive job market effectively.
