Abstract
This study investigated the production of briquettes from coconut shell, a readily available and renewable biomass resource. The physical and chemical properties of the briquettes were analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The SEM analysis revealed the presence of carbon, nitrogen, sodium, potassium, magnesium, and aluminum in the briquettes, with carbon being the most abundant element. The FTIR analysis showed that carbonation introduced additional hydroxyl groups and enhanced certain chemical functionalities, making the briquettes a promising alternative energy source. The calorific value of the briquettes was found to be 34.60 MJ/kg, indicating their potential as a viable energy source. The study demonstrates the potential of coconut shell briquettes as a renewable and sustainable energy source.
