Design and Construction of a Single Phase Controllable Resistive Load Educational Kit

Abstract
This project focuses on the design and construction of a single-phase controllable resistive load
educational kit. The kit is intended for use in electrical engineering education, offering students
hands-on experience with load management, power consumption, and fundamental electrical
principles such as Ohm’s Law. The trainer features ten lamp holders, controlled by toggle
switches to simulate various resistive load conditions, and includes an analog ammeter for
current measurement and an overload protection switch for safety. The project involved selecting
appropriate components, designing the circuit layout, and assembling the trainer onto an
Aluminum Composite Panel (ACP) and a wooden frame. Testing procedures, including no-load,
short-circuit, and load tests, were conducted to ensure functionality, accuracy, and safety.
Although minor discrepancies in current readings were observed, attributed to component
tolerances, the trainer successfully demonstrated key electrical concepts and provided a valuable
learning tool for students. The project concluded with recommendations for further
improvements, such as incorporating inductive and capacitive loads for a more comprehensive
educational experience and enhancing the precision of current measurements.
