Solid Waste Management

This Study presents the current solid waste management practice in Auchi Polytechnic Hostel Auchi. Solid waste management has to do with the method of collecting and disposing solid waste such as plastics, bottles, rubber, and nylon e.t.c. in carrying out this project we visited the school hostel ; we also made use of Questionnaire and also carried out oral interview among the staff and students in the school hostel . From our site visitation, we observed that the hostel environment is littered with waste (nylon, papers). Also, the school dump site is over filled, we observed that there are no enough waste bins for the collection of waste. With the help of the questionnaire and Oral interview , we learn ed that waste is not collected regularly and the dump site is not well maintained waste which made us draw a conclusion that the management of solid waste in the school posted is in proper from the observation and study we were able to compute the amount of solid waste generated per week in this school was there and also the waste generator from every building in this post there there we and the data is represented in a past chart for better understanding from our observation we search a study we came with a suggestion that students are staffs should be educated on the importance of proper solid waste management , Waste in the school hostel should be collected more frequently , the environment should be swept more frequently, the school should provide more waste bins and stationery waste bin for the collection of waste to keep the environment clean and healthy and lastly , the ways in the dump site should be maintained and burnt regularly
