Effects of Humanure Biochar, Liquid Human Dung and Npk Fertilizer on the Growth and Growth Parameter of Potato.

An experiment was set up on October 2024 to compare the effect of Humanure Biochar, liquid Human Dung and NPK Fertilizer on the Growth and Performance of potato crop in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria at Human Dung Research Center, Federal University of Technology Owerri, Imo
State. The treatments were made up of T1- Cortrol 0 kg/ha; T2 NPK 20:10:10 200kg/ha; T3-Liquid Human Dung 5li/ha; T4-Humanure Biochar 5t/ha. The plot measured 2×2m with 1 alley. They were 12 plots altogether. The total land area were 88m². Only the agronomic parameters of the test crop where measured at 28, 48 and 56DAP. The plant parameters measured were Leaf Area, Leaf Area Index, Number of Leaves, Fresh Weight of Shoot, Root Density, Vine Length at different measurements dates. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with four(4) treatments and three(3) replications. The raw data generated were subjected to Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and mean differences were separated using Fitsher Least Significant Differences at 0.5% probability level. The results obtained showed that the liquid Human Dung and Humanure Biochar produced the highest agronomic parameters when they were compared with the control; the Numbers of Leaves (NOL), Vine Length (VL), Fresh Weight of Shoot (FWS), Root Density (RD) and Root Length (RL). Also, at 28DAP the LHD and the HDB recorded the longest root length. The Human Dung Biochar has a little or no smell due to pyrolysis which has taken place. With improved odor and increase in plant nutrient in the human Dung Biochar, it is a better method of presentation of Humanure and other organic animal waste for agricultural purposes.
