Abstract
Methamphetamine (METH) abuse is a significant public health issue, known for its adverse effects on various organs, particularly driven by oxidative stress, inflammation, and structural damage to renal tissues, leading to impaired kidney function. Despite these challenges, effective therapeutic approaches to mitigate METH-induced kidney damage remain limited. Magnolia Officinalis, a traditional medicinal plant, contains bioactive compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, making it a potential candidate for nephroprotection. A total of 30 male albino rats were randomly divided into five groups: Control, METH-only, Magnolia Officinalis-only, METH + low-dose Magnolia Officinalis, and METH+ high-dose Magnolia Officinalis. The rats in the METH groups were administered methamphetamine intraperitoneally for 14 days to induce nephrotoxicity. Kidney function parameters, including serum creatinine, urea, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and electrolyte levels were analyzed. The METH only group showed significant elevations in serum creatinine, urea, and BUN, alongside disrupted electrolyte balance, indicating impaired kidney function. Magnolia Officinalis bark extract exhibits nephrotoxicity effects against METH-induced kidney damage by mitigating oxidativestress and inflammation. These findings suggest that Magnolia Officinalis may serve as a promising therapeutic agent for managing nephrotoxicity associated with methamphetamine exposure.
