Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the antimicrobial and phytochemical properties of coconut water extracted from young Cocos nucifera (green coconut), with the aim of evaluating its potential as a natural therapeutic agent. Phytochemical screening was conducted to identify the presence of bioactive compounds, while antimicrobial activity was assessed using the agar well diffusion method against selected bacterial and fungal strains. The phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of key secondary metabolites, including flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and phenolic compounds, all known for their pharmacological significance. Antibacteria activities of coconut, prepared at various concentration at 100% of 4mm against Staphylococcus aureus and extract of 5mm at a concentration of 100% against Staphylococcus Pyogene The antimicrobial results demonstrated that coconut water exhibits inhibitory effects on various microorganisms, with more pronounced activity against Gram-positive bacteria compared to Gram-negative strains. These findings suggest that coconut water contains bioactive constituents capable of contributing to antimicrobial defense and support its traditional use in natural medicine
