Abstract
This study evaluated the proximate composition and metabolizable energy (ME) of
maggot meal as a potential alternative protein source for poultry. The results
showed that maggot meal contained 88.50% dry matter, 22.35% crude protein, 8.45%
ether extract, 6.12% ash, and 5.67% crude fibre. The gross energy and ME values
were 4100.50 kcal/kg and 3200.70 kcal/kg, respectively. These findings suggest that
maggot meal is a high-quality protein source with a suitable energy profile for poultry
production. The results demonstrate the potential of maggot meal as a sustainable
alternative to conventional protein sources. The nutritional profile of maggot meal
aligns with the requirements of poultry, making it a viable option for reducing
reliance on fishmeal and other traditional feed ingredients. Overall, this study
provides valuable insights into the nutritional value of maggot meal and its potential
applications in poultry production. The findings support the development of more
sustainable and environmentally friendly poultry production systems. In conclusion,
maggot meal is a nutritious and energy-rich feed ingredient that can contribute to more sustainable poultry production practices.
