Abstract
ABSTRACT
The study examined the relationship between Attitude of Business Subjects Teachers and Students’ Academic Performance in secondary schools in Calabar Municipality Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. To achieve the purpose of this study, four research questions were raised and hypotheses were formulated and tested. Literature review was carried out in accordance to the variables of the study. Correlative survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study was made up of public Secondary Schools in Calabar Municipality. There are a total of thirteen thousand, three hundred and ninety-five (13395) public secondary school students in Calabar Municipality. The sampling technique used is simple random sampling. The sample for this study was 215 senior secondary schools’ students from five (5) public secondary schools in Calabar Municipality. The instrument used to investigate was “Attitude of Business Subjects’ Teachers and Academic Performance Questionnaire” (ABSTAPQ) and Business Studies Performance Test (BSPT). The instrument was faced, and content validated by one expert from Faculty of education who vetted the items developed. Simple linear regression was employed to test the hypotheses under study. Each hypothesis was tested at .05 levels of significance. The result of study revealed that there is a significant relationship between Attitude of Business Subjects Teachers and Students’ Academic Performance in secondary schools in Calabar Municipality Local Government Area of Cross River State, Nigeria. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that teachers should learn to employ effective communication skills that will instill confidence in their students to boost academic performance.
