Influence of Examination Malpractice on Academic Performance of Senior Secondary School Students in English Language in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State

Abstract
This study was undertaken to ascertain the influence of examination malpractice on the academic performance of senior secondary school students in English language in Aguata Local Government Area. The study examines types of examination malpractice that
hinders academic performance of secondary school students such as impersonation during examination, result forgery and cheating from other students. The study adopted descriptive survey research design and simple random sampling technique to select 84
respondents from 100 teachers. The research instrument used for data collection was a structured questionnaire. The data collected were presented and analyzed using statistical mean scores. It was found that impersonation during examination to a high extent
influences academic performance of secondary school students in Aguata Local
Government Area. Result forgery has negative predictive value on the academic
performance of secondary school students in Aguata Local Government Area. Cheating from other students during examination influences academic performance of secondary
school students in Aguata Local Government Area. Based on the finding, and the implications of the study. conclusions were drawn and recommendations were made. It
was recommended that school authorities should strategize suitable means of conducting examinations in such a way that anyone who tries to impersonate will be early identify.
Government should ensure to prosecute anybody found guilty of result forgery to serve as deterrent to others. Education officials should organize seminars and workshops where strategies will be discussed on how to bring lasting solution to examination malpractice.
