Abstract

ABSRACT
This research work investigated the attitudes of students towards teaching as a profession
in Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. The objective of the study was to gauge UDUS
students’ perceptions, respect for their teachers and preference for teaching relative to
other career options. Descriptive survey research design was adopted. The total population
was 18,547 with sample size of 50. Well-structured questionnaire was used as instrument
to gather information from the respondents. ASTTP software was used to analyse the data
gotten from the respondents. Data collected were coded, collated, entered and analysed
using frequency count, tables and percentages to determine the attitudes of UDUS students
towards teaching profession. This study revealed a positive overall attitude of UDUS
students towards the teaching profession. It recommends that the university and education
policymakers further support and encourage the development of teaching programs, as
well as initiatives that promote the teaching profession’s value. Creating platforms for
students to engage with professional teachers and providing incentives for those interested
in teaching career.
