Abstract
ABSTRACT
The participation of women in politics is a crucial indicator of democratic development and gender equality. This study examines the prospects and challenges of women’s participation in politics during the 2023 general election in Kaduna Metropolis, Kaduna State. Employing a quantitative research approach, the study utilized simple random sampling techniques to administer 400 questionnaires across the four local government areas that make up Kaduna Metropolis: Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Chikun, and Igabi. The data collected was analyzed to assess the socio-cultural, economic, and institutional factors influencing women’s political involvement. Findings reveal significant awareness of gender inclusion; however, cultural norms, financial constraints, and systemic barriers continue to hinder women’s active participation. The study emphasizes the need for targeted interventions, including policy reforms, financial empowerment, and advocacy campaigns, to promote inclusive political systems. By providing empirical insights, this research contributes to the discourse on gender equity and political representation in Nigeria.
