Abstract
A comprehensive geophysical survey was conducted at State Government College, Ado-Ekiti to investigate the geophysical survey and borehole drilling for groundwater exploration of the study area. The survey employed Very Low Frequency Electromagnetic method (VLF-EM) and Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) techniques to probe the Precambrian Basement Complex rocks underlying the study area. Six VLF-EM traverses and 21 VES points were established to gather data, which were then analyzed using RESIST software. The results revealed four lithological formations which are topsoil, weathered layer, fractured basement, and fresh bedrock. The weathered and fractured basement columns constituted the aquifer units. The geophysical parameters indicated thin overburden thickness, clayey weathered layer, and low fractured frequency, suggesting poor to low groundwater potential in the study area. However, the study demonstrated the use and geophysical survey and borehole drilling in evaluating groundwater potential in basement complex terrains. The results provided valuable insights into the hydro- geophysical characteristics of the study area, highlighting the need for further exploration to optimize groundwater resource management.
