Abstract
The global quest for renewable materials is a response to environmental concerns that are becoming more challenging in our everyday life. Bioplastic synthesis is significant for its ability to address environmental concerns associated with synthetic based plastics. In the production of the bioplastic, wood sawdust was collected and pretreated. 3.48g of Cellulose acetate was synthesized from 4grams of cellulose
isolated from 50g of acid hydrolyzed wood sawdust. Cellulose acetate, which is the synthesized bioplastic material was characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Based on the results of the FTIR analysis, functional groups such as hydroxyl, halo, anhydride, amine, carboxylic of wave number range 621.70cm-1 - 3352.65cm-1 were peaked. Thermal analysis was also used to investigate the weight loss percentage of sawdust in respect to temperature.
