Abstract
In a bid to combat poisoning from toxic substances which humans are sometimes exposed to, the effects of cyanide toxicity on the kidney was examined and the mitigating effects of levander extract studied. Cyanide toxicity has posed a major problem due to it’s lethal ability to claim lives within a short period, having a variety of readily available antidotes for cyanide poisoning would help reduce the lethal effects of cyanide.
Five groups of five (5) albino rats each were fed ad libitum with normal feed for the first 14 days of acclimatization. Afterwards, the positive control group (group 2) and treatment groups (groups 3,4,5) were induced with cyanide containing extract for a period of two weeks (14 days) and the negative control group (1) received normal saline throughout the period of the experiment. After the 14 days of inducing cyanide containing extract, the treatment groups were administered with graded doses of Lavundula angustofolia extract (low dose, middle dose and high dose).
Results obtained indicate that levander extract have mitigating effects on the stress caused by cyanide toxicity to the kidney (p
