Abstract
Adsorption behaviours of justicia carnea and camellia assamica dye extracts on unmordanted. cotton fabric sample: mechanism and kinetics was studied. The investigation was done at different time of dyeing ranging from 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50mins respectively, at temperatures of (50°C, 60°C, and 70°C) with concentration of 5, 10, 15, 20,25, 30, 35 g/ml. The extracted dyes were subjected to UV-VIS, FTIR and SEM evaluations to characterize it. It was observed that the maximum wavelengths for Justicia carnea and Camellia assamica were 530nm and 350nm respectively and the dye extracted were having functional groups that qualify them as dyes belonging to the dye groups of anthraquinone and Tanins respectively. The adsorption mechanism was affected by temperature and concentration while its kinetic pattern obeyed pseudo second order model for Justicia carnea while Camellia assamica was not described by it.. On the other hand, Camellia assamica was fairly described by pseudo-first-order models. This study also showed that the reaction of the dye especially Justicia carnea is chemisorption with occurrence of physical interactions unlike Camellia assamica which exhibited physio sorption attributes more than ionic interactions.
