The Nigerian Police Force and the Vandalization of Government Properties in Awka -North Local Government Area. a Study of Isuaniocha Town

Abstract
This project conducted an investigation into the Nigerian police force’s role in the
vandalization of government properties in Isuaniocha town, Awka-North local government
area of Anambra state. The research adopted a qualitative approach that employed
Descriptive and Analytical Methodologies. Descriptive analysis was used to describe the
extent of vandalization of government properties in Isuaniocha town Awka North L.G.A and
the role of the police force in curbing this menace. The analytical research design was used
to analyze various measures put in place to reduce vandalization. During the field work, a
total number of 398 questionnaires were distributed to police officers, residents and
government workers in Isuaniocha town. All the questionnaires were responded to. Male =
215 (54%) Female = 184 (46%) which give a total number of 398 Respondents. This study
objectives were based on; To examine the factors that contribute to the vandalization of
government properties in Isuaniocha town , Awka North L.G.A, To identify the challenges
faced by the Nigerian Police Force in preventing and addressing the issue of vandalization in
Isuaniocha town Awka North L.G.A and To propose strategies for enhancing the capacity of
the Nigerian Police Force to combat the vandalization of government properties in
Isuaniocha Awka North L.G.A. The findings of this study will be significant in several ways.
First, the study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the vandalization of
government properties in Nigeria and its impact on law enforcement agencies, particularly
the Nigerian Police Force. By addressing the factors that contribute to the vandalization of
government properties and the challenges faced by the Police Force in combating this issue,
the study will provide valuable insights for policymakers, researchers, and law enforcement
agencies. Second, the study will help raise awareness about the vandalization of government
properties in Isuaniocha and its implications for the security and well-being of the residents
of the community. By highlighting the impact of vandalism on public services and the
relationship. The study also revealed that the police were perceived by residents as being
corrupt and often complicit in the vandalization of government properties. Therefore, the
study recommends that government should learn how to keep their promises which will
eradicate anger and frustration among her citizens in order to prevent Vandalization of
government properties in the country, The Nigeria government should provide to the Nigeria
Police Force with enough funding that will help them provide everything necessary to
carryout their duties especially in monitoring citizens activities. And as a solution, the
research project recommends the implementation of enhancing police patrol and presence
around the country. Which would involve increasing the number of police officers stationed
