Impact of Working Capital Management on Profitability of a Manufacturing Company in Nigeria

Abstract
ABSTRACT The study examined working capital management and organizational profitability of a manufacturing industry. The objective of the study is to determine the impact of accounts receivables in a number of days on the profitability of Nigerian manufacturing companies, to examine the effect of inventory held in a number of days on the profitability of Nigerian manufacturing companies; and to investigate the impact of cash conversion cycle on the profitability of Nigerian manufacturing companies. Data were sourced from annual report using times series data on Return on Assets, Account Receivables, Inventory Held, trade and other Payables and Cash Conversion Cycle to determine the relationship between working capital management and profitability of Nigerian Breweries Pic. Results revealed that accounts receivables, inventory held, cash conversion cycle and trade and other payables has significant impact on the profitability of Nigerian Breweries Plc. Based on findings, it is recommended that the measurement of profitability in this study was Return on Asset (ROA) which means that management should take every working variables as significant since their combined effort are needed; that research should be done to find out the impact of Working Capital Management on other measures of profitability such as Return on Equity (ROE) firm growth and net trade cycle: and that accountants should be employed to maintain the account and financial activities of the company.
