Employees Participation and Decision Making in Benin Electricity Distribution Company

ABSTRACT

The study aimed at evaluating “Employees Participation and Decision Making in Benin Electricity Distribution Company, Benin City Edo State. Among the objectives of the study is to ascertain if there is a significant relationship between employees participation in decision making and the productivity of BEDC. A sample size of 40 was selected using a simple random sampling method. The researcher adopts a survey design, and analysis was based on primary data generated through a structured questionnaire administered on respondents. The test of hypothesis was performed using descriptive statistics while simple percentage was use to establish the relationship between variables selected. The result arising from the primary data tested at 0.05 co-efficient interval and degree of freedom revealed a positive relationship between employee participation in decision making and the productivity of BEDC. The study concluded that employee participation in decision making has been found to have favourable effects on employee attitude, commitment and productivity and on the efficiency of the managers. The implication of this is that managers should adopt participative management because it is an inevitable tool in any organization. However, it was recommended among others that managers should increase the frequency and level of worker participation in decision making considering the fact that they are the people carrying out the main operative work as they are in the better position to know what goes on those areas.
