Abstract
ABSTRACT
The major aim of the study was to determine the entrepreneurial skill training needs for adjustment to adult life among vocational education students of University of Calabar, Calabar. The study was guided by three specific purposes, research questions and hypotheses respectively. The research design adopted for this study was descriptive survey design. The study was conducted at University of Calabar. The population of the study comprised of 135 Vocational Education undergraduate students limited to University of Calabar. The simple random sampling technique was adopted for this study and a sample of 80 respondents representing 59.26% of the population was used. The researcher made used of a self-developed questionnaire titled: Entrepreneurial Skill Training Needs and Adjustment to Adult Life Questionnaire (ESTNAALQ). The instrument was validated by two experts from the Department of Vocational Education and one from measurement and evaluation from College of Education, Cross River State. The researcher administered the questionnaire to the respondents and retrieved immediately for data and analysis. Data were analyzed using mean for answering the research questions and independent t-test for testing the null hypotheses. Findings of the study revealed that communication skill training, technical skill training and financial literacy skill training were needed by Vocational Education students for adjustment to adult life. Furthermore, male and female Vocational Education students do not significantly differ in their responses on the communication skill training, technical skill training and financial literacy skill training needed for adjustment to adult life. It was concluded that communication skill, technical skill and financial literacy skills must be acquired by Vocational Education students for adequate adjustment to adult life. On the basis of the findings it was recommended among others that Government should revamp the quality assurance unit of tertiary institutions to appraise the placement and monitor student internship programme to ensure student acquisition of technical skills in their discipline.
