Abstract
Comparative analysis of academic achievement of co-education and non coeducational secondary school physics students between 2010-2014 in Owerri municipal council of Imo state. To guide the study, three research questions and one hypothesis were raised in line with the purpose and objectives of the study. The study adopted analytical survey design with a population of six thousand, eighty three (6,083) students out of which a sample of two thousand three hundred and twenty five (2,325) students were purposively selected out of the ten (10) government owned secondary schools in Owerri municipal council of Imo sate. The data were analyzed using percentage in answering the research questions and Pearson (r) product moment correlation coefficient and t-test was used to test the hypothesis. Findings revealed that non co-educational (single sex) schools perform better than co-education (mixed sex) schools in WASSCE between 2010-2014 and the grade performance of secondary school physics students does not significantly depend on school type. Based on the findings it is recommended that physics teachers in Owerri municipal council should use strategies that would help to improve teaching and learning of physics in senior secondary schools.
