Abstract

Language plays a vital role in facilitating communication, integration, and access to opportunities, especially for foreigners in unfamiliar environments. This study investigates the importance of language for foreigners seeking admission into higher institutions in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, with a specific focus on Federal University Dutsin-Ma. The research explores how language proficiency—particularly in English and Hausa—affects admission processes, academic performance, and social integration. Data was gathered through structured questionnaires administered to 50 respondents, including foreign students, academic staff, and local residents. Findings reveal that English proficiency is a formal requirement for admission, while Hausa plays a significant role in social and cultural adaptation.
