Fungi Isolated from Bioreactor Used for Bioremediation of Waste Water in Uli Anambra State

Abstract
ABSTRACT
•
Improvised bioreactor was developed using an empty bournvita container by creating an opening
for aeration, temperature and Ph assay .This is use to carry out bioremediation of
wastewater with a view to isolate the fungal organisms involved in the process. This research
was carried out in the microbiology laboratory of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University
Uli Anambra state. This was done to identify the fungi associated with petroleum products
polluted soil from Uli Anambra state and wastewater from ogoni Ricer state. The petroleum
product polluted soil and wastewater sample was added into the improvised bioreactor and
stirred using the laboratory handle brush which acts as the stirrer shaft. Bioaugumentation was
instituted by addition of brain heart infusion agar, yeast extract, agar, pepton water and addition
of chloramphenicol powder (antibiotics) optimization of operational parameters such as ph
temperature and aeration and the integration of real time monitoring systems for process control.
SDA culture plate was prepared and innoculated using 2ml of the wastewater sample. The SDA
culture plate was incubated for 25-30°C and monitored regularly for fungal growth. The fungal
was cultivated using agar plate culture method for 7-14days. Results revealed that presence and
successful cultivation of the fungal within the bioreactor "ASPERGILLUS NIGER species
CANDIDA SPECIES, there macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. Through systematic
experimentation and analysis, this project aims to achieve high pollution removal efficiencies
while maximizing the yield of aspergillus nigers. candida species biomass and to contribute
significantly to sustainable wastewater management practices by developing an innovative
bioreactor system that not only mitigate environmental pollution but also recovers valuable
microbial resources. The integration of wastewater remediation and microbial recovery presents
a dual benefit, promoting circular economy principles and advancing the field of environmental
biotechnology The recovered aspergillus Niger and candida specie can be further utilized in
various biotechnology applications, including enzyme production biofuel generation, and bio
conversion processes, thus contributing to sustainable waste water management and resource
recovery.
