Infrastructural Mapping on Federal Polytechnic Nasarwa Campus, Nasarwa, Nasarwa State.

Accurate and up-to-date infrastructural mapping is critical for effective campus planning, resource management, and sustainable development. Infrastructural mapping of FPN campus involves creating a detailed, spatially accurate representation of its physical assets and systems to support planning, management, and decision-making. This process integrates advanced geospatial technologies, such as GPS surveys, satellite imagery, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), to capture, analyze, and visualize critical infrastructure components like buildings, roads, utilities, green spaces and energy networks. This study presents a comprehensive approach to mapping the FPN campus by integrating Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) surveys with high-resolution satellite imagery, GIS serves as the analytical backbone, synthesizing disparate datasets into layered, interactive maps and facilitating spatial analyses. The objectives are to map and analyze infrastructures on FPN campus and generate data for planning and managements of these infrastructures. The methodology involved data collection, georeferencing, data processing and integration, mapping and analysis. The results showed that out of the 125 captured infrastructures grouped into academic, administrative, religious, recreation and more. 90% constituted academic facilities, two major administrative blocks, one bank, three halls and others. The total extent of the campus is 2129.6 hectares while the area covered by infrastructural development is about 42.5 hectares representing about 2% usage of the entire land. The recommended the upgrade and maintenance of critical utilities; identify aging classrooms. electrical, plumbing, and drainage systems and prioritize their modernization to prevent failure and the provisions of infrastructures like toilet s, cafeteria and students center. The study concluded that ultimately, a well-executed infrastructural map serves as a valuable reference for administrators, urban planners, and stakeholders, ensuring the campus remains functional, safe, and adaptable to future growth.
