Abstract
This study presents the design and implementation of a departmental website for result uploading and a checking system using a hybrid authentication model. The website aimed to streamline the process of managing and accessing academic results, facilitate efficient communication between instructors and students, and enhance transparency within the department. The key objectives included creating unique accounts for students and course advisors, generating Official Grade Reports (OGRs) and enabling audits, incorporating a responsive design with course registration functionality, and automating the transmission of lecturer-inputted results to the Head of Department for approval. We employ Agile methodology for this project. This methodology underscores the importance of collaboration, wherein the department and developers work together to define software requirements and tasks during the design phase. Moreover, the Agile methodology allows for ongoing improvement as specific requirements arise. These requirements may surface in real-time, such as when a user submits a complaint about a system fault. The website was developed using the MEVN (MongoDB, Express.js, Vue.js, Node.js) stack, a modern and scalable JavaScript-based technology stack. Security measures such as login and authentication mechanisms, role-based access controls, protected APIs, and data encryption techniques were implemented to safeguard sensitive information and maintain data confidentiality and integrity. Implementing this system will enhance the accuracy of result computation within the Department and ensure proper documentation of uploaded results for all registered students, offering an overview of their performance each session. It will also help balance the workload for course advisers, thus enhancing the Department’s Information Management System. Additionally, in cases of omitted or missing results, the system allows for prompt reporting to lecturers for immediate response and adjustments.
