Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the phytochemical constituents and proximate composition of Hellenia speciosa (C.V. Morton), a medicinal plant traditionally used in various cultures for its therapeutic properties. The phytochemical screening was carried out to detect bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and phenolic compounds were all highly present, all of which play key roles in the plant's medicinal potential. Proximate analysis was conducted to determine the nutritional composition, including moisture content, crude
protein, crude fat, ash, and carbohydrate content. The results obtained for the proximate composition showed the following: moisture content (6.80%), ash content (5.00%), crude fiber (38.50%), crude protein (1.14%), crude fat (37.20%) and carbohydrates (7.36%). These findings highlight the dual role of Hellenia speciosa as a medicinal and nutritional resource.
Further studies are recommended to isolate specific bioactive compounds and investigate their pharmacological effects in vivo, as well as to explore the plant's potential applications in the nutraceutical industry.
