Abstract
The study investigated an assessment of BBN on Nigeria culture. The research design adopted for this study was a survey design of the descriptive of type of research. The population of the study consisted of all undergraduate students in Ekiti State University (EKSU). The sample size of four hundred (400) respondents was used for study. The instrument to be used for the study was a self-developed close ended questionnaire constructed by the researcher. The completed questionnaire were coded and analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. It was concluded that Big Brother Naija has made a significant cultural impact among undergraduate students at EKSU, particularly in terms of entertainment and social influence. While the show fosters widespread engagement and provides a platform for discourse among students, its impact on behavior, relationships, and social norms cannot be overlooked. Students acknowledge both the positive and negative influences of BBN, and there seems to be a cautious recognition of the show’s potential to alter attitudes towards relationships, behavior, and cultural practices. The study recommended that universities should promote media literacy programs that encourage students to critically analyze the content they consume, particularly when it comes to reality shows like BBN. Universities should consider creating their own platforms or reality-based shows that reflect students' unique experiences, allowing them to express themselves in a positive and constructive manner while also fostering a sense of community.
