Abstract
Agricultural cooperatives play a significant role in enhancing farmers’ access to essential production inputs and marketing opportunities. This study investigates the impact of agricultural cooperatives in the supply of farm inputs and the marketing of members’ produce, using Kakuri Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative Society as a case study. Primary and secondary data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and relevant literature. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. Findings reveal that the cooperative society serves as a major channel through which farmers obtain farm inputs such as fertilizers, improved seeds, herbicides, and pesticides at affordable prices. Additionally, it provides support for the marketing of produce by offering market information, collective bargaining power, storage facilities, and linkages to potential buyers. Despite these benefits, challenges such as inadequate funding, delayed input supply, poor infrastructure, and limited government support were observed. The study concludes that strengthening cooperative societies can significantly improve agricultural productivity and farmers’ welfare. It recommends capacity building, improved financial services, and stronger government policies to enhance cooperative performance.
