ABSTRACT
Religious fanaticism and sectarian violence have caused bloodshed in Nigeria. This research the present religious fanaticism and sectarian violence in Nigeria using Edify Yakusak's After They Left and Elnathan John's Born on a Tuesday as texts of reference. To achieve the aim of the study, the research is set on the following objectives: To identify the different religions and their belief as they exist in the works of Edify Yakusak and Elnathan John, to point out the causes of sectarian violence in the works of Edify Yakusak and Elnathan John among others. The study adopts New Historicism as its theoretical framework \Elnathan John's Born on a Tuesday and Edify Yakusak's After They Left. The findings of the research revealed that religious fanaticism gives room for sectarian violence. The findings also revealed the contemporary problems of a growing culture of violence and fanaticism. It exposes destruction of lives and property witnessed in Jos Nigeria. This research concludes that, improper education, lack of orientation, unemployment, dogmatism among others have been found as the major root cause of religious fanaticism and sectarian violence in Nigeria. It submits that all forms of violence against individuals because of fanaticism must be challenged, addressed and eradicated in order to ensure development and well managed security in Nigeria.
