Abstract
This study investigates the relationship between financial literacy and economic
empowerment among persons living with disabilities in Ilorin South Local Government
Area, Kwara State, Nigeria. Using a descriptive research design and analyzing data from
89 respondents, the study explores the levels of financial literacy, identifies barriers to
financial inclusion, evaluates the role of digital financial services, and assesses community-
based support systems. Findings indicate a moderate level of financial literacy among
respondents, with significant barriers including inaccessibility of financial institutions,
insufficient funds, and discrimination. Digital services like USSD banking were widely
used, but limited internet access restricted usage of advanced platforms. Community
support played a crucial role, though awareness of formal advocacy programs was low.
Overall, financial literacy, digital access, and community involvement were found to
significantly impact economic empowerment. The study recommends targeted financial
education, inclusive policy reforms, improved access to digital infrastructure, and strengthened community engagement to enhance financial inclusion for persons with disabilities.
