Impact of Occupational Stress on Workers Productivity in an Organization

Abstract
This project work presents a depth study into the impact of Occupational Stress on worker’s productivity in an organization using First Bank Nigeria Plc, Osogbo as a case study. Omolara (2014) described occupational stress as the adverse psychological and physical reactions that occur in an individual as a result of their being unable to cope with the demands being made on them. The study therefore examined among other things, meaning of organizational productivity, effect of occupational stress on organization and causes of occupational stress. In this study data were collected through structured questionnaire with the aid of personal interviews, research questions and hypothesis were formulated and tested with chi-square analysis. The study revealed that Occupational stress can either be positive or negative. Not all stresses are negative. Some level of stress is necessary for development, motivation, changes for growth of the employees and the organization. In conclusion, workers should learn how to avoid work overload and undue procrastination this will reduce negative effect or stress. So, it is strongly recommended that, Individual workers in the organization must learn to present and manage stress perhaps the best way to prevent stress is to pay more attention to the relationship between one self and the organization when selecting method of reducing stress and managers can also eliminate some of the effect of job overloading by delegating work to another unit of the organization and planning carefully the job schedule in addition top managers can reduce stress through the organization decentralizing authority so as to reduce the stress among workers.
