Abstract
This study explores the effects of social media on drug abuse among undergraduate students of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI). Social media has emerged as a transformative communication tool, but its misuse has contributed to moral degeneration and substance abuse among youths.
The research identifies how social media influences students' attitudes towards drug use, either by glamorizing substance use or facilitating virtual drug transactions. Employing a survey design, a sample of 388 students was selected using Taro Yamane's formula. Data was collected through structured questionnaires, with the results analyzed using descriptive statistics.
The findings are expected to benefit students, counselors, educators, and policymakers by highlighting the role of social media in influencing drug abuse and suggesting measures for prevention. This study contributes to the growing body of literature on the intersection of technology, social behavior, and public health.
