Abstract
The study was undertaken to establish the influence of Availability and Utilization of
Instructional Materials on Students' Academic Performance in Economics in Nsit Ibom
Local Government Area. This study investigated the relationship between the availability
and utilization of instructional materials and students' academic performance in
Economics in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area. The survey research design was
employed, with a sample size of thirty-five (35) teachers out of a population of seven(7)
schools in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area. Data were collected using Availability and
Utilization of Instructional Materials Ouestionnaire (AUIMO) and Econornics
Achievement Test(EAT). Data was analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment
Correlation analysis. Results showed that visual aids positively impact academic
performance, while print materials and charts had no significant relationship with
students' academic performance. Over-reliance on audio-visual and multimedia aids imay
hinder academic performance. The study concluded that availability of some forms of
instructional materials are capable of enhancing students' academic performance in
Economics. It is also concluded that instructional materials play a crucial role in
enhancing students' understanding and performance academically in Economics. The
study recommends that educators and policymakers prioritize the provision and effective
utilization of instructional materials to improve teaching and learning outcomes in
Economics, among others.
