ABSTRACT
This study assesses youth participation in politics and governance in Nigeria, focusing on the Not Too Young to Run policy. The policy, enacted to lower the age limit for contesting political offices, was designed to encourage greater youth involvement in governance. The study had three key objectives: to evaluate the effectiveness of the Not Too Young to Run policy and the challenges faced by young aspirants, to investigate the factors that hinder youth participation in Nigerian politics, and to examine how the policy has influenced overall youth political engagement.
The research employed both qualitative and quantitative methods, gathering data through surveys, interviews, and secondary sources to analyze the impact of the policy. The findings revealed that while the policy has led to increased political participation and awareness among youth, significant barriers such as financial constraints, entrenched political godfatherism, and gender disparities continue to limit the effectiveness of the policy
