Abstract
This study evaluated the mineral composition of the young leaves of Manihot esculenta (cassava) and Anacardium occidentale (cashew), using standard analytical method. The results revealed that young leaves of M. esculenta contained low concentration of Mn (0.78 %), Fe (1.74 %) , Zn (2.20 %), moderate concentration of Mg (28.53 %) and high concentration of Na (65.55 %) , Ca (136.35 %) and K (572.65 %), While the young leaf of A. occidentale contained appreciable amount of Mn (0.41 %), Fe (0.88 %) , Zn (1.96 %), moderate concentration of Mg (21.72 %) and high concentration of Na (44.80 %) , Ca (121.25 %) and K (325.55 %), In addition the leaf of the two plants contained very low heavy metals concentration of - Pb (0.01 %), Ni (0.01 %) and Cd (0.00 %) in M. esculenta while A. occidentale contained very low heavy metals concentration of Pb (0.01 %), Ni (0.02 %) and Cd (0.00 %) respectively.
