Abstract
The present study assessed the green synthesis and characterization of Zinc oxide nanoparticles using Bryophyllumpinnatum leaf ethanol extract. Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles was carried out using Zinc nitrat with B. pinnatum leaf ethanol extract as the reducing agent. The synthesized B. pinnatum-Zinc oxide nanoparticles were characterized using UV-visible spectrophotometry, Scanning electron microscopy, Transmission electron microscopy, and Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis (EDX) using to standard methods. Result obtained from the study showed that the synthesized nanoparticles UV-visible absorption peak occurred between 230-300nm. SEM and TEM surface morphology analysis showed that the particles were spherical with mean particle size of 16.71nm. The EDX spectra image reveal the percentage weight elemental composition of the synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles was 56.06 ± 3.46%, 20.81± 2.55 %,22.66 ± 1.04 %, and 0.46 ± 0.09% for Zinc, carbon, oxygen, silicon respectively. Metalic zinc ions were the predominant elements in the nanoparticles. Therefore, the result showed that B. pinnatumleaf ethanol extract was highly effective at green synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles. Characterization of the particles by SEM and TEM clearly showed the formation of spherical nano-crystals with diameter of 8–29nm. The elemental analysis confirmed the presence of Zn, C, O, and Si. These findings proves the ability of the extract from B. pinnatumleaf to serve as a reducing agent for the synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles.
