Assessing Irrigation Practices and Constraints in Dadin Kowa, Yamaltu Deba, Gombe State, Nigeria.This study investigates irrigation practices and challenges in Dadin Kowa, Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area (LGA), Gombe State, Nigeria. Through questionnaires and interviews, and 100 questionnaires was administered to irrigation farmers in the study area, the study explores socio-demographic characteristics, irrigation methods, crop cultivation, and constraints to irrigation development. Center pivot irrigation is the most prevalent irrigation method, adopted by (31%) of respondents. Solar-powered irrigation is the most popular modern technology, with a (31%) adoption rate. Rice is the primary staple crop cultivated under irrigation, accounting for (35%) of respondents. Water scarcity, lack of infrastructure, and limited funding are the primary constraints to irrigation development. The study recommends Developing comprehensive irrigation policies, Investing in irrigation infrastructure, Promoting modern irrigation technologies, Enhancing access to credit for irrigation farmers, Supporting research into climate-resilient irrigation technologies. These recommendations aim to address the challenges faced by irrigation farmers in Dadin Kowa and promote sustainable irrigation practices for agricultural development in the region.
