Career Prospects of Otm Professionals in Government Establishments (case Study of Ministries of Education and Works, Osogbo, Osun State)

Abstract

This study focused on career prospect of OTM professionals in government establishment. 'Case Study of Ministries of Education and Works, Osogbo, Osun State. The population of the study was twenty-two (22) secretaries. Twenty (20) females and two (2) male secretaries. For the purpose of collecting information, various literature and textbooks were consulted to enrich the research. A well structured questionnaire was constructed and administered on the subject. Three (3) research questions were formulated for this study which are; (I) What are the career prospects of confidential secretaries in terms of promotion in government establishment? (ii) What are the training opportunities for confidential secretaries in government establishment? (iii) What are the career prospects for confidential secretaries in terms of occupation mobility in the government establishment? The questionnaires were distributed by hand. The data were analysed through Simple Mean Method. It was concluded that training opportunities available for secretaries in the government establishment are; on-the job training, in-service, off-the job training. The findings also reveal that promotion prospects, occupational mobility, job rotation improves secretaries’ productivity and it also sharpening their skill. It was recommended that Secretaries should embark on training courses, seminars, workshops both for existing and prospective secretaries at regular intervals to keep in pace with the current wave in this challenging world.
