A Correlation of Amplitude of Accommodation and Visual Acuity in Patients With Myopia

ABSTRACT
Myopia also known as nearsightedness is the visual condition in which only nearby objects appear in focus due to the parallel rays of light from distant objects are bent too much to form an image in front of the retina. This study evaluated the Correlation of Amplitude of Accommodation and Visual acuity in patients with myopia. The subjects passed through the screening criteria after which they were assessed by measuring their Amplitude of Accommodation and Visual acuity. The subjects were 61 comprising of 23 males and 38 females of ages within 18-30years with a mean age of 21.33±2.68. The visual acuity of the subjects were taken at far using the snellen visual acuity charts at 6m.The mean value of the Visual acuity (OD ) was 0.30±0.26, OS was 0.31±0.28 then OU was 0.44±0.31. Subjective refraction of each subject was conducted to ascertain their refractive error and the degree of severity. The degree of Myopia had a mean value of -2.66±2.13 for the right eye and then -2.55±1.98 for the left eye. The Amplitude of Accommodation had a mean value of 19.06±9.04. Statistical package for social science (SPSS) version 23 data output was used for this study using the Pearson product moment correlation coefficient at 0.05 level of significance and 95% confidence interval.
