Abstract
ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to isolate bioactive chemical compounds present in the leaf extract of Acioa barteri. In this investigation, the leaf of Acioa barteri was subjected to the identification of bioactive compounds responsible for antimicrobial activity by using High Performance Liquid Chromatography – Diode Array Detector (HPLC-DAD). The leaf sample was extracted with ethyl acetate. Extracted sample was injected; based on the retention time and peak formation, the bioactive compounds were screened. The Chromeleon 6.30 software was used to create results for the HPLC chromatograms and UV spectra of the secondary metabolites. High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) analysis of Acioa barteri revealed the existence of six (6) compounds which were responsible for its antimicrobial activity, they were Enniatin B (1), Septicine (2), Naamine F (3), Aplysinamine 1 (4), Oleic acid (5) and Scopularide A (6).The results obtained support the traditional use of this plant in various diseases treatment especially those caused by pathogenic microorganisms.
