Abstract
ABSTRACT
This research conducts a critical discourse analysis of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu's speeches addressing economic challenges, aiming to uncover the underlying ideologies and power relations embedded in his rhetoric. The objectives include examining the linguistic strategies employed by Tinubu, identifying the socio-political context influencing his discourse, and assessing how his speech reflects and shapes public perception of economic issues. Utilizing Norman Fairclough's (1989) framework of Critical Discourse Analysis, the study analyzes textual features, discursive practices, and social contexts. Findings reveal that Tinubu employs persuasive language and rhetorical devices to construct a narrative of resilience and optimism while simultaneously framing economic challenges as opportunities for national growth. The conclusion highlights the significance of political discourse in shaping public understanding and response to economic policies, emphasizing the role of language in political leadership.
