Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to evaluate and compare the carcass characteristics of two locally raised meat-type chicken strains Noiler and Moor Beta under the same management conditions. A total of 170-day-old chicks which consists of 85 Noiler and 85 Moor Beta were brooded, raised, and fed uniform diets until the end of the experiment. At 8 weeks of age, eight birds (two males and two females from each strain) were randomly selected for carcass analysis. Parameters measured included live weight, fasted weight, bled weight, dressed weight, eviscerated weight, and total trimmings. The data were analyzed using the General Linear Model (GLM) procedure in SAS. The results revealed no statistically significant differences (p > 0.05) across all carcass traits measured. However, Moor Beta birds consistently recorded higher numerical values than their Noiler counterparts in live weight (2.55 kg vs. 2.05 kg), dressed weight (2.10 kg vs. 1.55 kg), and eviscerated weight (2.00 kg vs. 1.35 kg), indicating a potential advantage in carcass yield. Although the differences were not significant, the findings suggest that the Moor Beta strain may possess better carcass traits than the Noiler strain.
