Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine determinants of attitude of market women towards waste management and environmental sustainability in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State. To achieve the purpose of this study, three null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The survey research design was considered most suitable for the study. The simple random sampling technique was adopted in selecting the four (4) markets while the purposive sampling technique was adopted in selecting the two hundred (200) respondents used for the study. A twenty-item four- point Likert scale questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. The instrument was validated and tested for reliability. To test the hypotheses formulated for the study, one-way analysis of variance was the statistical tool used for data analysis. The result obtained from analysis of data revealed that there is a significant influence of level of environmental awareness on environmental sustainability among market women. Based on this finding it was recommended among others that relevant stakeholders should ensure that market women are regularly and adequately sensitized on the need to maintain and clean and healthy environment at all times.
